Bob Geldof (1951) is an Irish pop singer who rose to fame in the 1970s as frontman of The Boomtown Rats. In 1984-1985 he became world famous for his charity event Live Aid. These two 24 hour concerts in London and Philadelphia were intended to raise money for the hungry population in Africa. Many world famous rock and pop artists performed at Live Aid, In 1986 Geldof was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, even though they're was controversy since Geldof wasn't a British citizen and didn't do anything specifically for Great Britain. In 2005 Geldof organised a second Live Aid concert called "Live 8", this time intended to raise awareness about the hunger in Africa instead of raising money.

Portrayal in Spitting ImageEdit

Geldof's charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas" was spoofed as the song: We're scared of Geldof in which various people perform a charity single because they were afraid to say no, even people who the singer called by mistake. This was a reference to the fact that Geldof was very intimidating and emotional in his request to people to donate money.

In another sketch he was featured claiming he didn't mind the criticism that he didn't deserve a knighthood for the reason that he hadn't done anything for England, since Margaret Thatcher didn't do anything good for her country either.

The real Geldof was amused by his puppet and appeared in a 2007 documentary on ITV about "Spitting Image" to pay his tribute to the show.
