Kylie Minogue (better known as "I've Been Very Lucky) is a Spitting Image song parodying Kylie Minogue and her 1980s success at the time. The song is sung by Kylie Minogue and a robotic hybrid of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Peter Waterman.
Visual and Lyric Explanations[]
The song is a direct parody of "I should be so Lucky" both in spoofing the lyrics, as well as recreating the set from the music video.
Kylie is portrayed as being a Frankenstein's monster, designed to be an ideal 80s pop sensation. She is shown to be controlled by remote control and switches, comparing her acting and singing to be "robotic" and "factory produced". The line "all done by machine" is likely also mocking the fact most of the song is created through editing, and none of Kylie's non-existent talent. At one point she sings like Rick Astley, in reference to beliefs that SAW songs were so similar, playing a Kylie record backwards sounded like a Rick Astley song.
SAW themselves are portrayed as being a audio machine that keeps producing music and fawns over how successful Kylie's luck as a singer has been to them.
Kylie at one point mentions "They could have gone to Crossroads with Benny". This is in reference to actor Paul Henry who played Benny Hawkins on Crossroads, who at one pointed recorded a song playing as the character. This is why he is referred to as Benny and not Henry in the song. His on and off minor acting/singing career is mocked by displaying a message that he now appears in Mother Goose productions, desperate for money (but at least he's in work). Obviously, Henry is being compared to Kylie in that both were mediocre soap opera actors who dabbled in music, while one was oh so very lucky, the other not so much.
